Abstract

This essay addresses the issue of heroism in the Mahabharata because this epic is a classic treasure trove rich in lessons and complex characters. To analyze the concept of heroism in the Mahabharata, I employed the method of intrinsic element analysis with a focus on three main characters: Yudhishthira, Karna, and Srikandi. The analysis results indicate that these three characters serve as strong representatives of the dominance of heroism values within the narrative of this epic. Yudhishthira, with his adherence to dharma, Karna with his loyalty and magnanimity, and Srikandi with her sacrifice and struggle for women's emancipation, all portray different manifestations of heroism. The significance of these values is not only relevant in the context of the Mahabharata but also serves as valuable inspiration for the character development of today's younger generation. They provide insights into sacrifice, courage, and moral duty, which can guide the younger generation in facing challenges in an ever-changing world. Therefore, the Mahabharata is not just a cultural heritage but also a valuable source of inspiration for nurturing character and morality in contemporary society.
